Story time with Taiga part 3: DC: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE

Assuming that the Healers are the important part of the plot to find a crab bite solution, this leaves one big question. What's up with Clover? Or most likely, the Clovers? Clover is a big monster that likes to stomp stuff and they KNOW how to stop him anyway. If the parasite crabs are the problem, then what the heck is the deal with Clover?

Well, we all know that the crabs came from Clover as parasites, so perhaps they simply thought that the best way to make sure the city kept being "infected" with crabs as they get eliminated from the killings was by inserting Clovers. However, we all know that one of the three didn't have any crabs. Why insert one that's not "infected"?

Also, a question a lot of people have been asking, myself including is, what do the crabs eat? There's no animals, and they do not seem to eat humans. What if the Clovers are only there as a food source? They are parasites after all, they would feed back on Clover, keeping them alive and capable of reproduction.

So what about the smaller Clover with no crabs? It's very possible that it's too young to be bitten, or it was just inserted and didn't have time to get enough crabs on him.

And now, ladies and gentlemen, as proof that I need my diploma fast before my brain melts of microbiology, I present to you: my most far-fetched idea yet.

What if the infection comes from Clover?

Animal reservoir. Think of it like the West Nile Virus, birds are the primary reservoirs, but we get infected with it via mosquito bite. Basically, what if the crabs aren't the only ones making us sick? What if they are only the vectors, not the reservoirs? Considering they are parasite, and their favorite site is Clover, what if Clover is the actual viral reservoir? This could explain why Clovers are needed inside Manhattan as they cannot directly infect people.

Also, keep in mind that we now have two monsters, one that wasn't swarmed in crabs too. And soon after, the latest batch of kidnappers got bitten and, for some reason, the symptoms came in sooner. Could the newest Clover have a different strain? Has it been made stronger by whoever is holding us captive? Is it a freak mutation?

Or you know, maybe just to dissuade people from trying to take over...

I think I'll stop for now before I go insane from weird theories and get myself rolls of tinfoil.

Yes, I agree that the idea of Clovers being disease reservoirs makes a lot of sense. It makes the monsters incidental but the crabs very important. Hmm... How is it that they have control over the crabs, though, I wonder?

[identity profile] pianistofraieln.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
Mostly I'm thinking of the plot where those abducted got thrown into a pit and all were bitten but nothing more than that. Why would the crabs just bite and then leave unless they were being controlled by something?

Probably... I get the feeling that they need to have some kind of control over the crabs though, especially if they're using the subway systems as the subway spelunking results seem to imply. That might be as simple as having a repellent signal set up, though.

[identity profile] moralitychained.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 07:00 am (UTC)(link)
I need to reread the last kidnapping thread, but a repellent signal is very plausible. An attraction signal too.

It could also work both on Clover and the crabs. Could explain how Clover crashed Zero's party and could also explain how they are directing the Clovers general movements, assuming they are.

Could be ultrasounds... but shouldn't the animal characters hear it?

[identity profile] pianistofraieln.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah if it's supersonic or ultrasonic there are definitely characters that would be able to hear it, either way. Hmm.

[identity profile] pianistofraieln.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 07:06 am (UTC)(link)
Probably. I mean we have a hell of a range of characters.

It is a good question, though. What frequencies count as subsonic and what animals hear those frequencies?

[identity profile] moralitychained.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 07:10 am (UTC)(link)
Unless we're thinking too hard about it and they just found a frequency only hearable by Clover and co.

Though that would streghten the military/experiment theory to the point where I'm starting to wonder if Clover and the crabs aren't just man-made.

[identity profile] pianistofraieln.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 07:14 am (UTC)(link)
hahaha yeah but it's unlikely that it would be completely unheard by anything else in the city.

I don't know if they're man-made...though when it was mentioned that crab bites don't kill you (PROBABLY) + what Harry Saw in the dead monster, my first thought was...maybe the crab bite infection creates new monsters. This is admittedly far-fetched, but hell. This is DAISYCHAIN.

[identity profile] pianistofraieln.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 07:16 am (UTC)(link)
...oooh. Infrasound would be an interesting explanation for there being no wildlife in Manhattan, actually.

[identity profile] pianistofraieln.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 07:20 am (UTC)(link)
This is absolutely true! I think we may be on to something!

Toph is pretty in-tune with vibrations, though, isn't she? She may have picked something up.

[identity profile] pianistofraieln.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 07:27 am (UTC)(link)
If it's carried through earth, yeah.

...

what if they are radio signals . . . ? We don't have any PCs who would pick that up and there are plenty of frequencies that normal radios can't pick up as well.

[identity profile] pianistofraieln.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 07:33 am (UTC)(link)
lmao XD that is kind of stretching it, because it assumes the crabs are sapient enough to have language capabilities that allow them to read.

...I always wanted to have somebody run around doing fake graffiti 8Da maybe Raiel and Hamel should get up to hijinks sometime.
coldfront: (the sweeter the sound // gayyyy)

[personal profile] coldfront 2009-03-30 07:33 am (UTC)(link)
That assumes crabs are cognizant enough to read, unless the messages are just variations of "waka" and "laka". But it's cool, Bunny Fletcher makes everything better.

[identity profile] inthephonebook.livejournal.com 2009-03-31 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
It would also explain how Clover hit the Intrepid just as people were exploring it. Also, remember the tunnel in Subway Adventure where the note was found looked recently cleared out, and there were no crabs at all.
